This early learning centre is designed to nurture tamariki’s connection with nature and their role within it.
In collaboration with Jade Hurst of Good_Space, we transformed nearly 1,000kg of post-consumer plastic waste, diverted from landfill into sustainable cabinetry and furniture.
The result is a space that embodies the centre’s mission while serving as a daily reminder to children, teachers, and parents of the impact of material choices and the responsibility we all share in shaping a better world.
At Spacebar Design, we believe meaningful design requires courage, education, and leadership. Too often, the industry defaults to what is easy rather than guiding clients toward long-term, sustainable solutions. This project challenges that mindset, showing that beautiful, functional interiors can also be regenerative. The future of design must move beyond surface-level aesthetics to actively improve the relationship between manufactured and natural spaces, and it’s our responsibility as designers to lead that change.
